Most people figured that after Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, Sega would have had some sort of team meeting where they decided that they would never let something like that hit store shelves again. Unfortunately, everyone in the company must have called in the day they had the meeting scheduled. Sega announced that a sequel, Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice, is incoming. This iteration will be skipping the Wii U, being released exclusively for the 3DS. However, I don’t know if that’s enough to get the sting of the first games out of our thoughts.
Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice is going to bring back all of the characters from the first game (Sonic, Knux, Tails, Amy and Sticks), leading them on even more adventures. The differences between this game and the first game? It’s going to have fire and ice elements that are bound to be….hot. I’m sure the team will be going after Eggman again, with some other main villain who is throwing a wrench into everyone else’s problems. Sonic will more than likely have to jump on both of their heads, too.
The game is going to be developed by the developers of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, Sanzaru Games, which gives a little credibility back to the game. Though, at this point, I don’t see what they could do to make another Sonic Boom game successful. Even when you take the fact that Rise of Lyric was neither done or without glitches, neither it or Shattered Crystal were very good games. I get that the cartoon series was semi-successful, but does that warrant putting Sonic fans through another game? Are they just going to continue to drag our faces through the mud and the pine needles until we bleed through our eyes? Yeah, probably.
Here’s the announcement trailer. Tell me: What do you get when you mix fire and ice? I don’t know, maybe another terrible Sonic game? HAHA!
Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice is coming to 3DS eventually. Make sure you keep an eye on Kaboomshark for Sonic Boom coverage. I’m sure you’ll get a kick about my endless ranting.
