Mega Man is back in a big way. Today, Capcom announced that Mega Man 1-6 will be coming to Steam, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this year in the Mega Man Legacy Collection.
All six games will be remastered through the Digital Eclipse’s Eclipse Engine. Each game will be individually reconstructed to have “8-bit style with HD flair!” Mega Man Legacy Collection will also feature popular modern features, including challenge modes and leaderboards, with replays being uploaded to the web for friends and competitors to watch. There will also be an enemies database that will let you practice fight bosses without having to plow through their minions. Beyond that, Mega Man Legacy Collection will feature vintage art and concept sketches that are being uploaded in “absurdly high resolutions.”
In a blog post by Capcom, Head of Digital Eclipse Frank Cifaldi said that Mega Man Legacy Collection is akin to a Criterion Collection movie set. “We’re living in the golden age of a brand new form of artistic expression, and we’re not doing a very good job of making sure our games will be available five years from now, let alone fifty. The more we can do right now to take video game preservation seriously, the safer our history will be.”
The Steam, PS4 and Xbox One version of Mega Man Legacy Collection will be available for download this summer for $14.99. The 3DS version will arrive this winter.
