Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem has been the elephant in the room since its announcement at E3 of 2013. The game, which was being developed by Atlus in conjunction with Intelligent Systems, has been so far a huge mystery. Fan speculation ran abound at how these two series would come together. Finally, during today’s Nintendo Direct, we got our first look.

SMTxFE is leaning comfortably in the Shin Megami Tensei camp of gameplay direction. With a lot in common with other SMT games, particularly Persona, the game takes place in a futuristic world and seems to have overworld exploration and character much like those games.

Featuring Fire Emblem characters (such as Lucina from Fire Emblem: Awakening, who is featured in the trailer), players will use Fire Emblem style weapons and morphing pegasus steeds to take on giant robotic monsters.

All in all, the trailer shows of very little of what makes up Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, aside from a solid presentation and some stylish anime cutscenes. I think it would be wise to expect more information on the game pretty soon.
